Authorities in Michigan are investigating how a 2-year-old girl died on a road near her home after she was put to bed by her parents.
On Friday, Sept. 13, at approximately 8:20 p.m. local time, troopers from the Michigan State Police’s (MSP) Jackson Post responded to a “car versus a pedestrian crash” at the 200 block of Chicago Street in Allen Township, Hillsdale County, per a statement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the MSP First District account.
“Upon arrival on scene troopers found a 2-year-old female toddler lying in the road,” the statement read. The toddler was taken to Hillsdale Hospital, but later died from her injuries, police stated.
On Wednesday, Sept.18, Lieutenant Rene Gonzalez of the MSP told PEOPLE that its officers were conducting “an ongoing investigation” into the tragic event and added, “at this time we have no new information to release.”
