Residents in Edgecombe County are dealing with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby on Friday afternoon.
Authorities asked several Pinetops residents to leave their homes due to severe flooding.
However some have still chosen to remain in their homes.
Edgecombe County Emergency Services Director Antwan Brown said more than 50 homes are under a voluntary evacuation. He said he thinks most of the homes will be ok, but the roads are impassable on Friday night.
With several “high water” signs posted and authorities blocking off roads, many people are waited in their cars, uncertain about when they’ll be able to return home.
Brown said he expects the water to rise another 3-4 feet in the next several hours. He said county leaders expect people to be able to return to their homes on Saturday.
Brown said authorities have evacuated at least 15 animals so far.
