BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – Rain after a wildfire can be dangerous. CAL FIRE says the intense heat from a wildfire like the Park Fire hardens soil, making it easier for communities like Cohasset to flood.

The Park Fire burned through Butte and Tehama counties this past July but just because time has passed — it doesn’t mean the work is done. CAL FIRE usually says when it rains, water is absorbed through the grass, shrubs, or trees but after a wildfire, the soil is hardened and water can’t seep through it.
