Outpouring of love for Marjorie Morritt, volunteer killed in Adelaide crash on her 79th birthday [Video]

The family of a great-grandmother, killed on her 79th birthday as she crossed an Adelaide road, say she had a heart of gold, and she impacted many South Australians through her tireless volunteer work.

Marjorie Morritt was crossing Kinkaid and Midway roads in Elizabeth East on Tuesday when she was allegedly hit by a Mitsubishi sedan just metres from her home.

She was taken with serious injuries to Lyell McEwin Hospital — the same hospital where she was due to clock on for her volunteer shift. She died shortly after.

A 22-year-old driver from Hillbank has been reported for careless driving after the elderly woman’s death, and also immediately lost her licence.

Marjorie — who was recently recognised by the SA premier for her charity work — was on her way to volunteer at Lyell McEwin, where friends were waiting for her with a birthday cake.
