Lisa Barney, the Oakland woman charged with manslaughter in the death of a 4-month-old infant last year, ran a licensed family child care out of her Oakland home.
Little Angel’s Family Child Care, at 121 Allagash Drive, which was owned and operated by the 54-year-old Barney, closed down the day the manslaughter is alleged to have taken place, and parents were notified to come pick up their children, according to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees licensing for child care providers.
The child care operation reopened for a short time a few days later, before Barney agreed with a state request to close the facility again. Barney’s license has since expired.
Barney was arrested Sept. 20 after a yearlong investigation into the death of a 4-month-old infant on Sept. 8, 2023, according to a news release from Lt. Aaron Turcotte, a troop commander with Maine State Police.
