NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Norfolk City Councilwoman Danica Royster has announced she will not seek re-election.

Royster is the second Norfolk City Councilwoman in the month of February who has announced their decision not to run again in November, with Andria McClellan making her announcement on Feb. 6.

McClellan not seeking reelection to Norfolk City Council

Royster, who currently represents Superward 7, has stated that she has chosen to “focus on her professional growth and dedicate more time to her financial services business.”

Royster was first appointed to council in January of 2021, and has primarily focused on violence intervention and prevention, community improvements, economic development and fostering community collaborations.

During her tenure, Royster was able to successfully relaunch the Norfolk Nighthawks Basketball program. Royster was also involved in the initiation of the Small Business & Non-Profit Townhall series.

Royster’s last day will be on Dec. 31, 2024.
