WADMALAW ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) – Christmas is coming early for students from Frierson Elementary School. Not only did they get to see Santa on Friday, 173 kids are going home with brand new bikes.
Each student is given a bike, a helmet and a lock.
It’s all thanks to a nonprofit called ‘Going Places’. The organization works to help children living in poverty.
Katie Blomquist, Founder and Executive Director of Going Places, said all of their students’ were in shock when they first saw the bikes.
“This shock on their faces is what we live for when they get here. But a lot of the teachers say when they get back to the classroom that’s when they’re like ‘Oh my gosh, this is for me, like I get to keep this.’ and then kids like fall to the ground out of shock,” Blomquist said.
