MINDEN, Iowa (KCRG) – The National Weather Service said preliminary reports and storm surveys show there were at least 17 tornadoes in Iowa during Friday’s storms.
The damaged trees and homes were reported across multiple counties from Crawford to Union, Ringgold to around Polk and Jasper Counties, according to reports.
The National Weather Service said it’s still working to review radar data, look at videos and examine satellite imagery to get a final count of tornadoes. They said it could take days to a few weeks to determine.
In Minden, Iowa, a man died after being trapped in his basement during the storms on Friday.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds went to Pottawattamie County on Saturday to see the damage. She issued a disaster proclamation in Pottawattamie County to allow more resources as the cleanup begins.
