NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A helicopter crew based out of Nashville was able to render significant aid to East Tennesseans during the chaos of Tropical Storm Helene.
The Tennessee Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team was deployed to Erwin, Tennessee at the request of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency on Friday.
The TN-HART team continued to work in the area throughout the weekend, rescuing at least 25 people from flood conditions. All members of the team have returned home safely.
“The team’s missions included flying supplies to various first responder agencies in the area, evacuation/hoist/humanitarian support, and ongoing water rescue efforts,” the Nashville Fire Department explained.
TN-HART teams are comprised of members from the NFD, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Tennessee Air National Guard.
“Each agency maintained adequate staffing and resources to cover events that may occur while the team was deployed,” NFD said.
