NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – While you may have been taking advantage of Black Friday deals, local businesses pushed consumers to shop at small businesses.
Small Business Saturday’s goal is to support local businesses and celebrate their contributions to communities.
For shops like Strings for Hope, which helps survivors of substance abuse, domestic violence, and human trafficking, holiday season sales make sure they can continue on their mission.
“It’s easier said than done. It’s our livelihoods, and it’s the team we employ there, it’s their livelihoods. It’s just so important to give other people the opportunity to also have a good Christmas and a good holiday, and that’s through these purchases,” said Emily Winter, CEO of Springs for Hope.
According to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, there are over 140,000 small businesses in the state with fewer than 100 employees.
