The most important element of a good romance is conflict. Without that conflict, there is no reason to pay attention to the narrative.
Menorah in the Middle was released back in 2022. Sarah Becker (Lucy DeVito) has arrived home with her new fiancé, Chad (Cristián de la Fuente) for Chanukah. One issue keeps her from sharing the news: her future spouse is not MOT.
But before that happens, her father has a heart attack. The family bakery is on the verge of being lost. Both Chad and Sarah’s childhood friend, Ben (Jonah Platt) work behind the scenes to keep it going while she maintains the front of the store.
The best way to describe the movie is that it is cute. The film is mildly enjoyable if you are in the right frame of mind. I appreciated that the cast is largely Jewish and that the screenwriters avoided the easy 2D stereotypes.
