Men accused of starting San Tan Valley house fire before running off [Video]

SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ (AZFamily) — Two men are facing charges after investigators said they started a fire that spread to and heavily damaged a San Tan Valley home before running off on Tuesday.

It happened in a neighborhood north of Skyline Drive and Quail Run Lane.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Sergio Contreras and 25-year-old Gerardo Contreras Chavez were seen burning weeds and trash in a vacant lot.

The flames got out of control and quickly spread to a neighbor’s house, PCSO said, and is likely a complete loss.

Video from the Rural Metro Fire Department in San Tan Valley shows the intense flames crews battled.

No one was hurt.

Deputies said the two men ran from the area and didn’t try to put out the fire.

They were later found at their home nearby.

Both were booked into jail on multiple charges, including arson.
