Man who used to work for TPSO arrested after taking inmate home to buy weapons, sheriff says [Video]

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — A former Tangipahoa Parish employee was arrested following his actions in 2021, when he took an inmate home to buy weapons from them, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Hammons, 56, was arrested on Friday on one count of Malfeasance in Office. 

The sheriff’s office said they learned Hammons “had taken a trustee inmate from the jail back to the inmate’s home in order to buy weapons from the inmate,” in 2021, the release said.

Hammons was then brought in for questioning. He admitted to the allegation and voluntarily “surrendered the weapons involved,” authorities said.

The sheriff’s office fired Hammons, who had been employed at the parish jail since 2010 doing maintenance work until the administration changed this year in July.
