Maine low-income renters forced out because of mold, fear losing their homes [Video]

Renters in an Avesta Housing building in Parsonsfield have been forced out because of mold. At least eight families from Pinewood Apartments are living at a hotel in Scarborough. Most of them have been staying there for nearly a month. “I’m so glad to be out of the mold,” said Ashley Emery, who moved into the hotel on Feb. 8. “I am so glad to not have to listen to my children cough in their sleep. I’m so glad that my daughter completed a full week of school for the first time since she started, I think.”Emery has been living in her unit since 2017. She started reporting mold one month after moving in. She says it wasn’t until last year that her complaints were taken seriously.
