It happened around 5:40 p.m., according to a news release from the Louisville Fire Department.
Crews responded to a burning home in the 4000 block of Louisville Avenue, off Allmond Avenue and South Brook Street near the Wilder Park neighborhood.
When fire crews arrived, the one-story house was engulfed in flames, with the fire threatening a nearby automotive shop.
Crews began to attack the flames from the inside but had to pull back to a defensive stance because of worsening conditions and the presence of several propane tanks around the house.
It took 30 firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. A dog was rescued from the building, according to the release, and placed with Louisville Metro Animal Services.
