Lincoln Police prepares for first home game of 2024 Husker Football season [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Lincoln Police Department is gearing up for the upcoming Husker Football season beginning Saturday, Aug. 31, against UTEP.

This year, 20-40 officers will work off-duty directing traffic at numerous intersections in and around downtown Lincoln.

LPD anticipates one or two lanes of traffic on 9th and 10th streets will be closed due to missing sidewalks so pedestrians can get to and from the stadium without significant delays.

During the football game, many of those officers will assist with UNLPD’s security efforts inside Memorial Stadium. Additional officers also work special details downtown and the Railyard, focusing on various alcohol offenses, tavern violations and other law violations.

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities manages traffic signals through its central operations hub and organizes traffic flow with barriers and cones.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation, Nebraska State Patrol and Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will maintain traffic flow and safety on the interstate and highways …
