Lehigh County woman died of exposure to extreme heat, coroner says [Video]

An Upper Macungie Township woman died in her home after being exposed to severe heat conditions, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office determined on Thursday.

The 93-year-old suffered from accidental hyperthermia, county Coroner Daniel Buglio said.

Hyperthermia occurs when the body’s heat-regulating mechanisms don’t work effectively generating a body temperature greatly above normal.

While she has been identified, her name was not released to the public to allow the family to grieve privately, Buglio said.

This is the county’s first heat-related death this year, the coroner’s office said.
