With pint-sized bottles of wine set to on sale in the UK from September, business minister Kemi Badenoch has delivered a brutal slapdown to an SNP MP who questioned whether there would be any demand for it, saying: “He doesn’t have to buy it.”
Moments earlier, Kevin Hollinrake, Minister of State for Enterprise, Markets and Small Business, said several changes to pre-packaged wine sizes were due to come into force on September 19, insisting they would support the “thriving” UK wine sector by providing opportunities for “innovation and greater choice”.
However, Glasgow North MP Patrick Grady responded by calling on the Government should admit there is “little to no demand or interest for this supposedly glorious Brexit benefit”.
Urging the Government to “admit that its Brexit dream of people quaffing pints of wine” was always a “fantasy”, he added: “In fact, the reality is a Brexit nightmare of border checks, of reduced consumer choice and of business closures.”
