KCPD is cracking down on sideshows, raising tow fees & working with city prosecutor [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Sideshows are happening more often and becoming more dangerous. Officers shut down a few sideshows on Saturday.

Sergeant Grant Ruark with the Kanas City Police Department said they started to see this increase within the last four to six weeks.

“As the weather gets warmer, the groups are getting larger and more and more prevalent around the city,” Ruark said.

Ruark said they’ve beefed up resources on both sides of the state line.  “One of the tactics that participants use is to go to one state and as soon as they flee, they go across state lines,” Ruark said.

But they’re now taking it a step further by increasing tow fees and working closer with the city prosecutor.

“We are also looking at expanding city ordinances to give us a little more ammunition when we are working with these issues,” Ruark said.
