Bernard Marcus helped found the Home Depot and grow it into the largest home improvement retailer. But the governor says his impact goes far beyond that.
A newly signed executive order from Gov. Brian Kemp ordered flags at half-staff Thursday at both the State Capitol Building and in Fulton County as he is laid to rest.
“Bernie Marcus was an icon of the business world who created jobs and opportunities for generations of The Home Depot employees,” the executive order said. “His considerable philanthropy will also reverberate through history, touching lives for the better.”
In a post on X — formerly known as Twitter — Kemp says the decision is “in honor of his many contributions to our state and nation.”
