Hoover Police Department set to get a new drone officers can deploy from their homes [Video]

HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) – Hoover police officers are getting new equipment to help keep you safe allowing them to respond quicker to calls.

Monday night, the city council approved $49,000 in funding for a new drone that officers say will take them to the next level.

The funding for the drone comes from the money the police department gets for housing federal inmates in the city jail.

Hoover police officers say this drone is similar to ones they have, but what makes this one special is instead of officers going to the station, picking up a drone and going to the scene it cuts minutes into seconds allowing them to deploy the drone from their office or even at home.

Officers say right now, they have about 11 drones in service with 10 pilots.
