COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A neighbor may have saved a homeowner’s life Wednesday morning.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department says that bystander saw smoke coming from the upper story of a house and rushed over to make sure no one was inside.
“The homeowner reports they did not have smoke alarms and [the neighbor] notified them of the fire. The homeowner was able to safely evacuate and did not suffer any injuries,” CSFD said.
Four pets in the home also got out safely.
Firefighters pulled up to the home in the 4300 block of Anvil Drive minutes later.
“Upon entry to the home, Engine 25 crews made their way to the attic where they were met with fire coming from the chimney of the home,” CSFD said.
Firefighters had the bulk of the flames knocked down within 20 minutes but as of 9:48 a.m. were still searching the roof and attic to ensure the fire hadn’t spread.
