Habitat for Humanity kicks off volunteer blitz in Mantua [Video]

MANTUA (KYW Newsradio) — Habitat for Humanity was in Mantua on Tuesday to kick off a six-day volunteer blitz working on building homes for families facing housing insecurity.

It started on North 40th Street, where an all-woman crew is building frames for four single-family homes in the neighborhood.

One of the women to take part was Jasmine.

“I don’t know if I’m doing a good job, but it feels like I’m doing something right,” she said as she swung her hammer.

Adam McGrath with Habitat for Humanity said beyond the crew of 20 women that was out on Tuesday, other crews with around eight to 10 people will fill out the other days.

“It’s multiple volunteer groups on multiple days,” he said. “So we have three days this week and three days next week with 120 volunteers coming out over the six days going at it all day to get these houses framed up.”
