Greenville County deputies warn of Duke Energy scammers [Video]

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community of Duke Energy scammers.

According to deputies, there have been multiple calls about individuals going around claiming to be with Duke and asking for access inside homes to check power status.

The sheriff’s office said one description was received from the Simpsonville area where two men with reflective vests were going from door to door but unable to show identification.

Officials stated utility companies are normally able to do all their work outside homes and will have proper ID, vehicles, etc..

“Stay cautious as scams seem to grow with natural disasters,” the sheriff’s office said.
