Frost is coming tonight to Lancaster County; Here’s how to protect your plants | Home & Garden [Video]

Frost patches are expected tonight in Lancaster County.

This week’s brisk overnight temperatures are going to dip even further Thursday night into Friday morning.

In Lancaster County, temperatures will reach a low of 38 degrees with patchy frost expected through 9 a.m., Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

For tender plants you want to keep through fall, and possibly later, here are steps to take.

For houseplants that spent warm weather outdoors:

  • Bring them indoors before Thursday night.

For outdoor plants:

  • For non-hardy plants, like tomatoes, on cold nights, cover them with a light sheet or blanket. Plastic sheets or upside-down buckets also work. Don’t allow the covering to touch the plant.
  • Hardy plants such as mums, leafy greens, broccoli and cauliflower do not need to be protected and will survive through temperatures in the 20s.
