BEAVERTON, Mich. (WJRT) – The Michigan DNR says last year, there were nearly 600,00 hunters in our state.

And as hunters make their way to the woods, hopeful for a harvest.

The DNR wants to remind hunters to properly handle your firearm, making sure it is properly sighted and functioning before you head out.

They also say it’s key to know the area you’ll be hunting, including nearby buildings and properties.

No one may hunt with a firearm within 450 feet of an occupied structure, including buildings or homes, unless they have permission from the landowner.

And during firearm deer hunting season, hunters are required by law to wear a cap, hat, vest, jacket or raincoat of hunter orange.
