Court records show Chophouse Downtown owners have histories of fraud, unpaid debts, and crime [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Jennifer and Michael Jones’ home now hides the scars from the 2020 derecho.

They initially hired Luxury Kitchens LLC to repair some of the damage, because their friend, Ryan Avila-Burillo, owned it.

“We were like everybody else during the derecho; just looking for someone to help us. So, Ryan volunteered, and we thought we had a friend in the business that could help us, that we could trust.” said Michael Jones.

The Jones’ say Ryan replaced windows and flooring. But they say the work was shoddy at best.

Several windows weren’t sealed, allowing water to get in and damage walls.

The tiling on the kitchen floor, they say, wasn’t level.

When they asked for a refund, Avila-Burillo shut down his company.

The Jones’ said they lost about $14,000 – too much for small claims court, but too little to make it worth it to hire …
