Richard Earl “Dick” Redner, past president/CEO of Redner’s Markets, has died.
Redner, chairman of the board and second-generation business owner, died on April 25 in Reading, according to the company. He was 73.
“A humble leader, Richard was known for his nose to the grindstone work ethic and just get-it-done personality,” according to a press release.
The company said he was instrumental in steering the company toward growth, built honest relationships and took care of guests and employees.
During his professional career, Redner, who was nicknamed “The Boss,” expanded the Reading-based chain from 10 stores in Pennsylvania to 44 grocery stores and 24 convenience stores in eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.
A crowning achievement during his tenure occurred in 2022 when the chain eclipsed $1 billion in annual sales.
