Stop & Shop and Hannaford, who are owned by the same Dutch Company, Ahold Delhaize whose systems were hacked last week, admit they’re still sorting everything out.Empty shelves, where fresh meat and produce should be, inside Stop & Shop and Hannaford locations across Massachusetts are not something customers want to see the week before Thanksgiving.”I’m going to do a late Thanksgiving, hopefully they’ll get some of that stuff back,” said one customer.”I’ll go to another store,” said another.Last year, food sales got a 2.4 billion dollar boost in the 2 week period around Thanksgiving, so this could not have come at a worse time.”At this time, Ahold Delhaize’s investigation is ongoing,” Stop & Shop said in a statement. “Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue. We will continue to take actions to further protect our systems. The security of our customers, associates and partners remains a top priority.”The statement also addressed the demand for grocery products to make it back to the shelves in time for Thanksgiving.”While there may be some limited inventory for certain products, we are working to re-stock our shelves and anticipate item availability to continue to improve over the next few days,” the statement said. “Our stores are well-stocked with turkeys and hams for Thanksgiving.”MIT Professor Yossi Sheffi is a supply chain expert. He said if Stop & Shop can get its systems safely back online, recovery should happen relatively quickly and the store’s suppliers will find a way.”Its before Thanksgiving, there’s a limited capacity of trucking, there’s a limited capacity for warehousing and some of it is already committed,” Sheffi said.”My estimate as I’m reading the situation, is that next week, or towards the end of this week and certainly this weekend, we should be close to okay.”Both Stop & Shop and Hannaford said they appreciate the patience from their customers.
