CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The Chesapeake Fire Department spent Sunday afternoon fighting a brush fire caused by a downed power line.
The first call came in at 2:41 p.m. from the 2800 block of Flag Road, according to Robert Warren of the fire department. The caller said rapidly spreading flames in a field were moving dangerously close to a structure.
Firefighters arrived to find an active fire in an open field and neighboring woods. Chesapeake Fire units and the Virginia Forestry Department executed a containment strategy utilizing multiple hose lines, brush trucks and a bulldozer to cut a fire line and contain the fire.
