RAPID CITY, S.D. – While the housing market has been unfavorable for home buyers lately, the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity is providing affordable homes for those who fall within certain income brackets.
Today, Habitat for Humanity pulled out the golden shovels to celebrate the groundbreaking of Bob and Linda Popkes’ new home.
Bob, who has been paralyzed from the waist down and is now retired, applied for the program to suit his mobility needs and to keep things affordable.
“We knew about the program last summer, said Bob. “We decided that we would like to work through Habitat for Humanity to purchase a house out here in the Black Hills. We started the process, the application and stuff. And that was in September that the applications were to be put in. December is when we found out that we were accepted.”
