Birmingham looking into short-term rental concerns in 2025 [Video]

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The City of Birmingham is taking a closer look into short-term rental concerns in 2025.

The city council walks a fine line. They want to prevent these properties from becoming safety risks, without hurting local entrepreneurs.

President Pro Tem Wardine Alexander said the council is considering ordinances focused on zoning and other requirements for short-term rentals in neighborhoods.

Already in 2025, there has been a shooting at a home in College Hills. That home was previously listed on Airbnb, but they tell us the account was deleted before this incident.

During the holidays, Airbnb introduced technology to prevent bookings if they suspected a party was planned, which has been an issue in the Magic City.

Councilwoman Alexander said companies, like Airbnb, are working with the city.
