BBB Tip-Off to the Rip-Off: Solar Panel Scams [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Labor Day weekend may be the unofficial end of the summer, but shady solar scammers are in high season.

Many people are thinking about using solar panels to lower energy costs, due to the recent extreme heat and the upcoming colder temperatures.

Beware of unsolicited contacts such as door-to-door visits, phone calls, emails, and texts from individuals claiming to represent the government or utility companies and offering substantial savings.

“Free” or “no cost” solar panel offers are scams.

Protect your personal information and take your time to research any company before you do business with them.

Remember, anyone pressuring you into a contract or demanding upfront or immediate payment is likely a scammer.
