A new auction house in northern Amherst County near the intersection of U.S. 29 Business and Virginia 151 recently received a special use permit from county officials.
The Amherst County Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 on Nov. 19, with two members absent, to approve the permit allowing the operation by applicant Landon J. Coffey at 1404 North Amherst Highway. The property is zoned B-2, general commercial, and is adjoined by commercial, agricultural and residential property.
Commercial-zoned land adjoins the parcel to the north and south along U.S. 29, agricultural property that includes a woodyard is directly to the west and a single-family home is located to the southeast. The site for the auction house includes an existing 3,000-square-foot building for office space, a fenced-in storage area behind it and open space.
