AROUND ALASKA: Warmer Winters, Flood Assistance and Landslide Warning! | Around Alaska [Video]

If you think the winters are getting warmer here in Alaska, researchers say you’re right. Researchers found that winters in the northern portion of the state are now more than 8 degrees warmer than they were 50 years ago, and Southeast winters are now 2 and a half degrees warmer. Also in the past five years, the report shows extreme weather, climate, and environmental events have become more frequent here in Alaska.

FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration are offering help to people affected by the Juneau Mendenhall Glacier Flooding. The SBA is offering low-interest federal disaster loans for businesses and residents impacted by the disaster. The deadline to apply online is December 16.

People in Ketchikan are being asked NOT to visit the landslide debris fieldin lower Carlanna Creek. Crews have been working to trim and cut the fallen trees and remove debris from the creek. The city warns people not to climb down the slide area or the adjacent wooded …
