ANZ Bank has removed in-person cash services from a number of its Sydney branches following similar moves by Commonwealth Bank and NAB.
Customers will from March 18 need to use ATMs for cash service at Carlingford, Balmain, Revesby, St Ives and Manly branches, though there will still be some staff to handle business or loan enquiries.
On Tuesday, 2GB’s Ben Fordham accused the bank of using it as a way to ‘close branches by stealth’ as cash goes digital. In the last six years in Australia more than 2100 bank branches have closed with 287 of those being ANZ locations.
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan criticised the bank’s move and said if they are offering transaction accounts to customers, they should be able to access their funds how they choose.
‘I don’t think these banks are living up to their side of the deal,’ he said on 2GB.
