MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Alabama Department of Transportation said they are working to facilitate smooth travel for the upcoming holiday weekend. The way they are doing that, officials say: no temporary lane closures.
According to an ALDOT press release, all temporary lane closures in Alabama will be suspended from Friday, Aug. 30, at noon to Monday, Sept. 2, at 11:59 a.m.
Officials said in the release this will help reduce congestion and enhance safety on the roadways for the benefit of travelers and workers.

“Labor Day is a time when motorists take to the roads to enjoy the last days of summer,” Drive Safe Alabama coordinator Allison Green said. “By suspending lane closures, we hope to make the journey safer and less stressful for everyone. Safety is a shared responsibility, and we urge all drivers to remain alert and follow traffic laws.”
