ROCHESTER, Minn.- Almost a dozen Rochester businesses took part in a national movement on Monday, Feb. 3, to highlight the important role immigrants play in a creating a thriving local economy.
The “Day Without Immigrants” protest had participating businesses, employees and students close down their stores, stay home from work and stay home from school to showcase the impact they have on their communities.
In Rochester Corona’s Tacos, El Gallo Mexican Grocery Store, El Buen Vino Liquor, La Michoacana Purepecha, DJ Supafly LLC and Marcos Auto Sales closed for the day in protest of increasingly harsh immigration policies from the Trump Administration.
Ivan Avalos, an IT specialist for the businesses and owner of DJ Supafly, gave a statement on behalf of the group.
