SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A Spokane Valley house caught fire when the resident said he left the stove on while cooking.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD), the call came in just before 1 a.m. to the home on East 36th Avenue.
Fire crews showed up and saw heavy smoke coming from the home.
The resident had evacuated the home. There was no one else inside the home when firefighters arrived.
The fire was knocked down and mostly contained in the kitchen area.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation.
The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
SVFD said cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries.
