Epona Epilogue: Most Gage County horses get good homes, but some legal hurdles remain [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – It started as a horror story: three dozen emaciated horses on death’s door seized by Gage County from a veterinarian and taken to Epona.

“We didn’t lose a single one,” said Lin Guyton, the founder Epona Horse Rescue.

A long road to recovery: muscle and fat covering the skeletal frames again. Then an auction in March, where Epona and its supporters scored 22 of them back.

Now only four remain at Epona. Three will live out their days there; another has someone eager to adopt. The rest, Guyton said, have loving homes.

“The commitment level that these horses get from people because of their story,” Guyton said. “Just kind of makes you want to smile.”
