CANTON, Ohio — A house fire that occurred in Canton on Monday afternoon is believed to have been started by a 5-year-old,
According to a release, the Canton Fire Department was dispatched to 1112 Greenfield Ave SW. at approximately 3:43 p.m. for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming out the second floor of the 2.5-story unit, which all occupants had already evacuated from.
The fire was extinguished with an investigation determining that it had been started by a 5-year-old inside a second-floor bedroom in the residence. The home was heavily damaged by the fire and the Red Cross was called to assist the family.
No civilians or firefighters were injured as a result of the incident.
