RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Avalon Geothermal is asking its customers to plan on utilizing their backup services for all home heating after it raised concerns over reliability.
In a letter to customers in September, the company says its heating system had to be shut down after experiencing two leaks. In their letter, the company says these challenges are “not aligned with the high level of reliability that we expect from our business.” They also called for further evaluation of the viability of the system.
They say that they have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the system, but that, given the cost to operate, the ongoing investment in capital improvements, and expenses related to administrative services, the system is not profitable.
In their letter, the company says they are considering all options, which may include reduction of service or a discontinuation of service options.
