Abandoned Marrero home attracts vagrants; leaving nearby residents concerned [Video]

MARRERO, La. (WVUE) – Gwendolyn Burns has called Marshall Drive in Marrero home for over half a century.

But right now, she’s calling on her parish for help.

An abandoned home located at 1000 Marshall Drive is attracting vagrants.

“We’ve got no help, and I don’t know what else to do,” Burns said.

Burns said she’s seen several homes get broken into, and she’s watched individuals from encampments on the property.

“Defecating outside of the home, they’re bringing trash back and forth. There’s a lot of violence,” she said.

“There’s a lot of drug activity. One morning, I was going to work, and somebody was shooting up.”

Fox 8 reached out to the owner of the home at 1000 Marshall Drive but didn’t get an answer.

According to residents, the property’s condition has worsened since the owner moved out several years ago.
