Thieves targeting Shelton Asian-American business owners homes [Video]

SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Police said thieves are targeting the homes of Asian-American business owners in Shelton.

Cash, jewelry and purses were stolen in July from a home in the city’s Huntington section.

“It appears, based on the investigation, that the house was targeted,” Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said.. “It wasn’t a random act.”

Kozlowsky said it was the house of a local restaurant owner. Police believe surveillance was done ahead of time, before the burglar broke in.

“They didn’t just ransack the house,” Kozlowsky said. “They went to specific areas. They knew where they were going in the house.”

Shelton police said these crimes target Asian-Americans, who run largely cash businesses. It’s these types of crimes that are the focus of the state’s Fusion Center, which monitors trends and patterns – sharing that information with local, state, federal and private partners.
