44 dogs removed from hoarding situation Burton continue recovering | Local [Video]

FENTON, Mich. (WJRT) – The 44 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation in Burton last week continue to receive medical care as advocates prepare to release them for adoption.

The small breed dogs were removed from a home where they were caged, starving and neglected. Genesee County Animal Control says 13 other dogs were found dead.

The city of Burton condemned the house where the dogs were kept and a woman who lived there is facing animal cruelty charges.

Genesee County Animal Control initially took custody of the 44 surviving dogs. They since have been released to certified rescue organizations to continue treating the dogs and preparing them for adoption.

Fenton Adopt-A-Pet took in some of the dogs to help with their recovery.
