21,000 new jobs forecast for biopharma sector by 2027 [Video]

21,000 additional jobs will be created in the biopharma sector by 2027, a report from the Expert Group on Future Skill Needs has found.

The sector has grown by 61% since 2016 and currently employs 50,000 people across 85 indigenous and multinational companies, and a further 40,000 jobs are estimated to be indirectly supported by the biopharma industry.

Based on three growth scenarios developed for the report, the group anticipates that 14,000 to 26,000 biopharma jobs will be created over the next five years.

“The Biopharma sector is central to Ireland’s economic success and has been for many years.

“This report shows that we expect strong growth in the sector requiring a continuing inflow of skilled workers,” said Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke

“It is essential that Ireland rises to the challenge of providing the educated and trained workers needed to support this growth.
