Wyandotte County cuts hours for community centers after Labor Day [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A significant shift will take place in Wyandotte County after Labor Day.

The Unified Government in Kansas City, Kan., announced its six recreation and community centers will be closed Sundays and Mondays going forward. Other hours during the week will also change.

The buildings will operate on the following schedule:

  • Sunday
  • Monday
  • Tuesday
  • Wednesday
  • Thursday
  • Friday
  • Saturday

The new hours take effect starting Sept. 3.

The change is being made because of several issues, according to county leaders.

The current budget allows for 22 employees in the parks and recreation department. They oversee all community centers, youth programs, adult programs, as well as other responsibilities.

The parks department said employees hired to work at community centers have been required to work a six-day week. The new hours mean employees will shift to a five-day work week, helping with hiring …
