CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte woman, Jayla Washington, is recovering after being hit head-on by a car involved in a police chase on East Sugar Creek Road early Sunday morning.
Washington was driving home from work when a vehicle fleeing from State Highway Patrol crossed the center line and crashed into her car. The driver, who was speeding at 90 mph, lost control and escaped on foot after the collision.
“I’m driving, I see them spin out, and I slam on my brakes as hard as I can, but I still get hit,” Washington recounted. “One of the state patrols let me know that the reason why I was hit was because they were chasing someone off the highway and onto the roads.”
