TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Better Business Bureau wants you to know about this safety feature to protect you online.

It’s called a six-digit verification code.

It works like this: you get a text or email with a six-digit code to enter before logging into an account. That way, no one can log into your account, even if they have the password.

Scammers know they need these codes to get in, so they’ve gotten creative in getting them from account holders. They often do this by posing as a trusted person or organization.

No matter who is asking for this code, do not share it; there is no situation where someone should need it, even if they are in tech support or customer service.
