Water grant from Gov. Ivey for town of Oakman to replace old water lines [Video]

WALKER COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Better water flow is on the way for hundreds of people in a small Walker County town.

You may recall homeowners and businesses in Oakman were directly affected by a winter freeze in January 2024 that impacted water flow capability.

That caused a crisis, forcing people to not drink or wash with their tap water for several days.

A state grant direct from the governor’s office promises to fix that.

The grant is for $500,000 and the Oakman Water Works System says it’ll begin replacing water lines from the area of Midway to Oakman.

The work is necessary because the new lines will improve flow capability coming into Oakman. Around 600 people were directly impacted in January during that hard freeze that affected water pressure on old water lines.
